Going into labour.......

Had a nice email from my dealership on Friday telling me that my PHEV’s build is imminent and should be in the next 7-10mdays according to their system. They will let me know for sure on 2nd April.
So in anticipation of the new delivery sometime soon here is the spec of my Maxi Mini
F60 Mini Copper Countryman S E All4 PHEV Auto - optional Melting Silver metallic Paint with standard Cloth/Leather Cord Carbon Black interior. (I am used to all leather interiors but was distinctly unimpressed with BMW’s leather that looks like plastic......)

Option Packs (these are as ordered, I don’t have the 2018 Pack Names or numbers)
Media Pack - Nav System XL, mini Connected , enhanced Bluetooth

Chilli Pack - 18” Black Pin Spoke wheels, Comfort Access, Fronts Sports Seats,Storage Compartment Pack,Seat Heating Front, Automatic Aircon, LED Foglights Front, LED Headlights with cornering lamps,

Mini Tech Pack - Reversing assist Camera, Harman Kardon K HiFi, Head Up display

Non Pack options:
Electric folding mirrors
Automatic operation of tailgate
Chrome line interior
Heated front screen
Roof and mirror caps in black
Panoramic Glass Roof
First Aid Kit and Triangle
Exterior mirrors with anti-dazzle
Auto-dipping rear view mirror
Anthracite Roof lining
Interior surfaces Piano Black
Black roof rails

Also listed are another page and half of what Mini calls standard “options” or what I would call standard fittings for the model but it makes the spec sheet look nice and fat!

Under Bonnet Fasteners

Grateful for any advice on sizes and proper description of some of the under bonnet fasteners on Mini One (year 2008) I've got a lot of partially corroded bolt heads and their washers seem to be integral to the fastener. Are there good sources of stainless replacements for those?

Tks

R50 weird overheating

Hi guys, brief interweb search suggests a couple of answers, but here is a font of R50 knowledge, so....

Driven the car today about 30 miles, (about 50 yesterday) and then the temp gauge ramped right up to max when in some traffic
No steam or obvious overheating, but when getting over 50mph it cooled again

Then kept up and down over the next 150 miles, but mostly stayed mid temp.
Checked the water level and it was at the bottom of the reservoir, but fan is cutting in and fine

Topped it up, seemed fine for some time, then suddenly the temp gauge hits max again and water level has dropped to the bottom of the reservoir

No obvious leaks and I’m scratching my head. Oil is as should be, no milk on the oil cap

Could it be it’s just water in the system with no coolant and fixed like that?

Increased Battery Discharge - New Battery Needed?

$

Hi Mini fans,

Recently my 2011 MCS displayed the 'Increased Battery Discharge' message. It has done this now probably only half a dozen times in the space of about 2 months. I checked the voltage and read 11.85V. Started the car and measured again and got over 14V (so I assume alternator is ok). Last weekend, I went on a 40 minute drive, parked up for about an hour and another 40 minutre drive home, let the car settle for a bit and checked the battery again, reading was 12.15V (I expected it to be a bit higher). Admittedly, I do generally use the car for short journeys (3 miles to work and then 3 miles back home) but my previous 2007 MCS which I had for 2 years never showed this 'Increased Battery Discharge' message at all. Yesterday I had the 'Battery Very Low' message pop up - panicked slightly. Got out and measured the battery, 11.80V. Car started ok. When I returned from my travels I think it was at about 12.15V again. So today I hooked up a 'Smart Battery Charger' and let it do its thing. After a few hours it had finished so I measured it straight away and got 12.65V. I left it about half an hour and got about 12.55V. I thought it would settle there. I checked it a couple of hours later and got 12.14V. Seemed like I may have wasted my time charging it. And just in case it matters, I had the Genuine Mini LED DRL kit fitted in October 2017, wondered if the extra lights on all the time were enough to tip it over the edge on all the short journeys.
The question is then, does it seem like I need a new battery? (I appreciate it may not be a simple answer but just wondered with everyones experience and knowledge if they could point out the most likely culprit)
Thanks
Jason

Engine Noise

Ticking sound that keeps pace with engine revs under ACceleration, but disappears under DEceleration.

Has been clicking or ticking since as long as I can remember at all engine speeds. Now have 133K+ miles on this 2004 R53.

NO code thrown, and nothing in this noise changed since I got a bunch of work done on the drive train from the flywheel all the way through the transmission.

Is this the tensioner? One servicer told me once upon a time (long ago) that it is the flywheel and that this noise is "normal". No one has ever suggested that it could be the tensioner or the supercharger, but could it be? Does anyone have those sounds recorded so that they could be compared?

Thanks.

Help! MOT Fail - Emissions

$

Took my 09 Mini One (50,000 miles) for its MOT last week and it failed due to the emissions:

Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive (7.3.D.3)
Exhaust emissions Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits (7.3.D.3)

Can anyone help shed any light on what it might be/how much it will be to fix? And even where’s good to take it to in Manchester?

I’ve since bought a new one that I’m waiting to pick up at the end of this week (Mini Cooper Convertible
With JCW pack) so need to sell my old one ASAP.

Will be selling it super cheap to get rid of it if anyone happens to know anyone that wants one, trying to avoid webuyanycar for obvious reasons!

Thanks in advance!!

Hi. So I’ve owned my Mini Cooper s 2003 plate for few years now and since I can remember the passenger door never opened with the fob but opens from the inside. Never looked into it as it hasn’t bothered me so just wondering if this has happened to anyone else ? I got told it’s the actuator but when you lock and unlock the car you can hear some sort of motor in the door working but josh doesn’t unlock the door.

Hi just got my first mini and its good but with a few down sides. Just had the watwr pump and belts done as its on 105000 and no sign of it ever having been don amd found a fair bit of rust. I will attach photos it they let me. Can any help as to get the car de rusted and sealed will be £440 but there is a Corrosion/Rust-Through 12 year Warranty through mini. Is this worth chasing? Or should i pay to get it sealed? That and a DPF light on and the blower has started to make a really strange sound its going well. Still fun to drive though... any help much appreciated.

Help! Have coolant leak and need advice!!

$

First I have a 2014 Mini Cooper S AWD 6-spd -- not sure what a 3rd Gen is (!) but hopefully I'm in the right place. I've got a coolant leak in the front of the motor and I'm hoping it will look familiar to someone who can give me a best guess at what is leaking? Photos attached. It may be hard to see, but it's coming down directly above the exhaust sensor, working it's way down to the exhaust itself eventually. I saw it on the garage floor and it continued to drip for a while to form a small puddle after about 30 min. I can't really get in there to see well enough to diagnose; so I can't really judge whether this is do-able for me (been working on cars for 45 years) or better to give to the dealer. Hoping for some input here from those with more experience to aid my decision! thanks very much. john p

Replacing front seats

Hi.

I'm replacing my front seats with aftermarket buckets which don't have airbags.

Do I need to get a plug in to bypass the airbag sensor?

If so does anyone know where I can get them from?

Thanks.

R52 convertible roof - how far is it *meant* to close?

$

Hi -- I've been trawling through the forum to find out why my convertible roof is leaking (water gets in through the seal near the A pillar - by the windscreen - and the roof) through onto the driver's seat and footwell - but wanted to check whether my roof was fully closing before spending cash on new seals first.

To my eyes the roof gets within 5-6 mm of closing but doesn't quite butt up against the seal properly - but I've not seen another example. Is this normal? Have attached a photo.

The mini's a 57 plate we picked up second hand.

R56 Cooper S losing power at 6000rpm

First time posting here as a new Mini owner.

I purchased a 2007 Cooper S back in December with 71k miles on it and everything seemed to be fine until today when I decided to open her up for the first time and really give it some power.
I noticed that when I hit 6000rpm in 2nd and 3rd that I was losing power fast like I suddenly took my foot off the pedal. I don't know much about cars so I wouldn't even know where to start when trying to diagnose the issue so I was hoping someone here could help!
