Does anyone have a recommendations for a bike rack - any brand - for a 2014 F56 cooper hardtop ? I've checked Saris, thule, kuat, and even mini -- and no one seems to have anything available.

Has anyone else noticed this ?

Hi, I've just collected a 2006 Mini One convertible for my wife. Low mileage at 40,000 but I've already noticed it has a slight oil leak, perhaps 1p coin size every day. Having done some research it seems that the 1.6 can be a bit leaky. I'm guessing crankshaft end oil seal or, more hopefully, sump gasket.

Secondly, does anyone know what this wire and connector is that is lying forlornly in the under tray? The red wire can be traced up and over the top of the engine where it joins with others in heat resistant wrap.

Thanks!

Mark

Key fob

Hi. I've just bought a lovely 05 plate mini one for my daughter for Christmas so I'm very new to the car. I'm sure I'll be picking your brains on far more important things over the coming months ( and years as I love it!!!!) but I just wondered if it's possible to upgrade the key fob to a one that folds? Mine is just the round headed part and the blade sticking out and it's quite big. Random question to start with ! Cheers. John.

Have coolant on the right lower control arm and on the ground. Quick look and could not see where the leak is coming from. Anyone have an idea?

Distinct Thud under floor...

Hi Guys.

Mini One 2003..Runs great engine quiet and very smooth for it's age.
However when you initially start the car there is a loud thud under the floor coming from around the handbrake area ,Once the car is running it is fine.
If I put engine under load as in keeping my foot on brake and trying to move slightly you can hear the thud again .
I thought it was the exhaust or heatshield knocking but this has all been checked out.
Would the underside engine mount possibly cause this problem..??

Cheers Dave

Mini Cooper S R56 Fault codes 2BD0, 2BD3, 2BD4

Hi, I have just joined this site and the first thing I would like to do is thank all the peoples whose posts I have read and learned so much from in the past.

Several months ago my mini cooper s R56 2007 developed a fault and it was traced to a burned out exhaust value. So I stripped the engine down and got the header reconditioned and put it back together with new timing chain, etc.

When I came to fire it up it wouldn't run so I called in a mobile mechanic who had a professional diagnostic kit and who told me the system says it has the following faults
2BD0 - DME internal fault watchdog output
2BD3 - Monitoring power supply no 2 sensor CY320
2BD4 - Monitoring power supply no 3 sensor CY320

The guy then said that was as far as he could help me and recommended asking on a forum or taking it to a specialist. This could get expensive so would very much appreciate any ideas you have on what is wrong before I make the hole deeper?

Many thanks in advance

Shaun

2002 Mini Cooper S

Hello All,

My Cooper S is/was a Belter until a few niggles became major issues.

1st-of the Engine light and EMS light both came on. Using a Diagnostic Box it was the Throttle Potentiometer and Accelerator pedal.

Almost immediately, the traction control light came on as well as the run flat light.

I replaced the Throttle potentiometer valve and Accelerator pedal, and the following day the lights were back on again. The ABS light then came on.

I found that a clip had broken inside the engine compartment and the ABS cable was rubbing on a pulley wheel and had cut through most of the cable and was easily fixed.

I then was stunned to see the EMS light and engine block both go out on their own. So I put it in for MOT.

It failed as a Lower Suspension ball joint was worn and the brake pipes were corroded.

It was planned those repairs are being done today prior to re-test of MOT, but last night the EMS and Engine Block lights came back-on for no apparent reason.

I suspect there must be a loose connection somewhere or perhaps a worn cable as-in the ABS cable. Any comments or input would be welcome..

Hi, does anyone have any idea how much it would cost to replace the gearbox oil on a 55 cooper (not at a bmw garage)

Clutch Slipping

$

Hi all,

My 06 plate Cooper S Checkmate's clutch is displaying some odd behavior, however, this doesn't happen on every journey and sometimes it drives fine (even if I accelerate very hard).

Basically, when the fault does occur I'm getting clutch slippage when accelerating anything beyond just tickling the throttle and it happens through all of the gears. When I accelerate it will pull initially then the engine will race with no increase in road speed and then the slipping seems to stop and the car accelerates again.

My extremely limited technical knowledge tells me the clutch is going but I would appreciate any suggestions that you guys might have, even if it's just so that I don't get the wool pulled over my eyes at the garage.

A couples of points to note are that the clutch and flywheel were replaced under warranty at about 6k miles, it's now on 85k. Also, bizarrely we've just had the discs and pads done and the issue has only occurred since then. I think the brake and clutch fluid systems are one and the same so not sure if that could be related?

As I say, any help or suggestions would be extremely gratefully received.

Thanks in advance,

Tom.

Excessive Brake Pedal Travel

I have a 2003 Mini Cooper which I have owned for the past 7 years. It has always had a lot of brake pedal travel, I have bled the system numerous times but with no improvement. I have fitted new pads and discs over the years but no difference to pedal travel.

I have just fitted a replacement master cylinder (from a breaker) but its still the same.

There have been several threads on this forum about this issue but none seems to have identified a solution.

Has anyone managed to fix it please?

Many thanks...................Phiilh

Here I am, first post in the forum.

I'm an automotive hobbyist, I'm all about fixing things on the cheap. For about 10 years I've kept a list of cars I'd like to own (there are currently 15 cars on the list, though I only have room for 6 cars at my house). Mini Cooper has been on that list since the beginning.

Shortly after selling my last project (an 86 Isuzu Pup diesel that had been sitting for 10 years before I got it) I happened upon a 2002 Mini Cooper that couldn't drive, for what seemed a reasonable price. The owner thought the manual transmission was bad, which turned out to be correct. So I went looking for a replacement transmission and found that used 6-speed transmissions cost a couple hundred bucks less than used 5-speed. With the Texas Speedwerks write-up in mind, I got myself a junkyard transmission, flywheel, starter, one of the cv halfshafts (they'd already sold the other) out of an 03 Cooper S and set about swapping the transmission. Now, after a week of working on it, I've reached a point where I need a bit of advice from experienced Mini mechanics so I can get this project finished and start driving it. I'm having trouble with the shift cables and I'm still waiting for the correct cv halfshaft to be delivered to my local auto parts store. I'm kinda thinking I need to post another thread about the transmission swap in another part of the forum, unless somebody here just happens to be able to help.

Loud clunking noise :(

Hi everyone, This is my first post so please excuse me if this is in the wrong section. I have a Mini Cooper s 03 plate. I've been hearing a very loud clunk when I accelerate, turn, brake and reverse. I took it to the garage and they replaced both lollipop bushes - this stopped the clunking for a day but it came back and is now getting more frequent. I'm not 100% sure where this noise is coming from at a guess it's the front but like I said not 100%. I really hope someone has an idea wat this could be and help :) many thanks laura x

UK Winter tyre & wheel deals

Hello everyone, just joined after buying an MCS.

Anyway, went to buy a set of mats at my local dealer (Sytner, Leicester) and happened to ask about wheels and winter tyres.

Was offered a set of four 17inch R97 flame spoke alloys with Bridgestone Blizzack LM25 runflats on (205/45 x 17) for the price of £750 inc VAT.

Checked Mini website back at home and dealers are listing these at £1,500. And there's a specialist UK Mini parts website asking £421.87 per wheel (£1687). That's one massive saving.

Seems that Mini may be running the wheels out as five-stud wheels are now the order.

Anyway, thought I'd pass the word around.

A friend of mine has a US spec 2005 Mini Cooper Automatic, it has white 16" wheels, 205/55r 16 tires I haven't seen the wheels in person, I am trying to determine if they are run flats or not. Thanks folks, former owner of a 70's 1275 Cooper S, '91 535i 97 540i BMW's

...land of the cider drinkers!

I'm an almost but not quite retired scientist and tutor. After 2 years of quiet sensible motoring in a harmless Ford Focus I couldn't stand it any more and went mad and bought a Mk 1 2005 Chili Red Cooper, with lots of the bells and whistles!

The poor thing looks to have led a cosseted life at first but has been neglected lately - when I found her one tyre was completely flat and the other 3 nearly so, and the service indicator says she's overdue an inspection and fluid change by thousands of miles. I have her booked in for a full service Tuesday.

Meanwhile I just had to charge her up and put some air in the tyres and she's already happily flying along. Love the handling, and the way the engine suddenly roars and takes off around 4500k.

No doubt I'll have questions in due course, but for now I'll just say 'hi everyone'!

I've just bought a used MINI with 32,000 miles on it. It's my first standard and although I've driven standards quite a few times, I'm still taken great care not to burn my clutch.

I'm looking to enter the Mini world. At first I was going with the supercharged version. Still might. Then came across the R56. Then the JCW, THen the GP....
Then heard about this timing chain issue.. Was ready to take the leap untill I seen that. Can someone tell me if the JCW has a different engine? I'd like to just stick with the S and do some light mods. But this timing chain issue has me worried. Was this a recall? And also, How many miles is the factory warranty good for? Any advise or pointers are very welcome.. Thanks Ya'll!
