Hi everyone, glad to be joining mini2!! I have recently had trouble with my 2002 Mini Cooper Automatic. Today I have been told I need a new top mount on the passenger side suspension strut which I am getting done tomorrow they have qouted me £71 for the part and fitting at National. Is that a decent price or not?
They also diagnosed my second problem which I was hoping would only be a wheel speed sensor but it was worse than that they put the car on their diagnostic and it came up with internal fault 5DF5. I have done a little research and this could be a faulty Body Control Unit which sell on ebay for around £60.....but I think it has to be programmed to my car and I wonder how much that would cost? Sorry for all the questions on my first post! But any help would be greatly appreciated. My location is Paignton in Devon if someone could help in person or just please reply on this forum with advice. Thanks to everyone in advance.

I recently bought a 2001 Mini cooper.
The car has ordinary tyres on the Mini 16 inch alloys rather than the runflats originally specified. I have checked all tyre pressures - all spot on and no drive issues.
The problem is that the runflat indicator light always glows constant yellow when ignition in on. ABS light comes on and goes out as normal so it seems that the ABS sensors used for runflat sensing are working properly. I have also checked the OBD for error codes - none present.
Have tried resetting the light using the switch near the handbrake but none of the documented methods work. I bought a new reset switch just to confirm that this was not the problem.
There are lots of forum posts about this subject and I think I have read most of them several times. Most advice is the standard RTFM and use the reset procedure. As the light comes on solid as soon as the ignition is turned to position 2, the manual procedure has no chance of working and believe me I have tried. Hold the button in on position 2, hold the button in on position 1, hold the button in when engine running/car stationary, hold the button in while driving. No change, not a flicker - light shows bright and solid yellow.
Having rebuilt both door lock remote actuators to resolve motor unlocking problems, replaced the sump gasket to resolve an oil leak, remade wires and bought a device to reset an airbag light, resolved a roof leak by sealing roof corner trims and aerial gasket, I am now left with this runflat light permanently showing yellow. I enjoy a challenge but this problem has completely beaten me.
Can anybody please put me out of my misery with a solution.

Hey there folks,
I have a 2013 Hardtop. Just tripped 20,000 mi. Tires are wearing fast (run flats, ugh). 16" rims. Don't want to replace with run flats. Rather regular tires. Any suggestions on tire choice? Also, any one living in or near The Villages, FL have any local shops they take their Mini to for service. The closest dealer for me is over an hour away. Looking forward to reading some of the post here. Hope to learn some stuff.

Morning all - I bought a second hand coopers s 2 weeks ago which so far has caused me nothing but issues.
I first noticed a problem when there was no heat coming through the vents ? then all of a sudden the gauge went right up onto hot so i stopped immediately and home to do some research which lead me here, After reading various posts i went and bought a new expansion tank and filled it with coolant as advised. All has been well the last week however today the exact same thing has happened having looked under the bonnet the tank is covered in anti-freeze despite the cap being locked tight ? i cant see any liquid on the pipes neither
Is there anything else it could be ? I am no mechanic so please if anyone has any advice can you explain it is stupid terms :p
Thanks for your help

Hi all, - newbie here. I've Wanted a Mini Cooper for the past 15 years - just finally picked up a 2010
JCW! So far so good. Looking at getting a few more horsies out of it - has a K&N Cold Air intake - other than that it is all stock. Any ideas to start off with would be great. Kind of interested in the Evolve tune thread I read on here that bumped a members
JCW to 274HP. Comments on Evolve? Yay or Nay?
Thanks all and looking forward to some great motoring!

Hi people
What are your thoughts on time vs distance with regards to carbon build up on the inlet valves. My 11 plate FJCW has only covered 19k in 3 and half years. The car is driven by my wife on a daily basis (slowly) on her commute to work thru London traffic. Although the miles are relatively low, could the valves be carboned up in the same way that a higher mileage, younger car could be and have indeed been?

I'm looking at putting my cooper S on the track but I can't for the life of me figure out if I have the aero pack so I can upgrade to the grill with additional brake cooling ducts for when I add big brakes.
How do I find out??

We are the original owners of our electric blue S. Actually designed it on line before they were being made. Still fun and fast.

Hey guys,
Brand new here I just bought my Mini One R50 today from a garage, it's a 56 plate and racing green, will soon have my Private plates on though! ha
The first
mod I wanted to give it is an upgrade in the headunit, the one in it is just the single CD, I want to get one in there that has aux, bluetooth, SD possibly etc.
It looks an odd shape, how do I know what models will fit, is it just a standard single Din and what kind of fascia would I need etc please.
I know how to change it but just not sure what models will fit in its place.
Any help is great, only had a Vauxhall Corsa before lol, so a big step up in modability!

I was dumb enough to drift after my friend (in my mom's car) and he didn't drift as long as me where I ended up cracking the front bumper (small crack but you could say she got mad).
Seems like a small job to switch but, I had a hard time finding one.
I found this one: New In Primer BMW MINI Aero /
JCW John Cooper Works Front Bumper R50 R52 R53 @ Ebay (not allowed to post links yet)
Will this fit my mom's Mini One R50 2001 (I believe)? As really much other than screwing is not wanted, also is this the cheapest one with OK/good quality?
Best regards.
So damn dumb

Hi Mini people. I have 2 problems on our 2011 FJCW. 1st, I revs to 2.5k-33k on start up intermittently (3 times in the last month). 2nd, the cooling fan comes on now too, again on start up, engine stone cold, ie first start of the day. I'm thinking some sort of temp sensor but any input would be great. Thanks:)

Hello - I was recently rear-ended and my 2002 bmw 525i was deemed a total loss. So time to find another vehicle.
I have been researching the mini, because it is the car I want to buy, but I need to make sure it is practical.
The major issues I'm reading about are excessive carbon build up requiring frequent and expensive maintenance, and a class-action lawsuit over faulty transmissions. Are there other common issues I should be aware of?
Seems like pretty big hurdles and making me consider alternative vehicles. Have these issues been fixed in the newer models? I'd probably be looking at a 2009-20010 mini cooper.
I appreciate any advice you can provide, as I'm sure people driving the vehicles daily will have the best info. I'm especially interested in how often your vehicle requires maintenance and if you consider the vehicle reliable.
Cheers

Just wondering if any of you might have some insight as to what I can use to re-apply my chrome trim around my passenger side fog light.
I was at a hand car wash and they had used a pressure washer, when one of the gents handed me my chrome trim... Unimpressed, I let them finish the car and drove home. I've tried to push it back into place and it's not wanting to go in, any ideas? :/
Thanks in advance!

With a very heavy heart, my wife and I have agreed we need to sell our second car, a Mini Cooper S (2nd Gen).
I'm trying to work out the best way to sell it. eBay reaches a very large audience, but I suspect there are untrustworthy characters that lurk there. It is fairly cheap to place a classified there. There's also Autotrader. I have no experience with it, but I know it is highly regarded. Can be pricey, and I don't know if it's audience is any better in terms of trustworthiness.
I'd want to minimise my risk: I assume the best bet is to sell for cash or bank transfer? Also, how do you deal with test drives? If they have third-party insurance, it's legal, but that's not much help if they write off my car!
My car is FULLY loaded and only 13K miles (registered Dec 08), so Glass's is saying £10,400 (and that's not taking into account the R109 wheels). This is quite a chunk of cash, so I've got a lot to lose if this doesn't work out.
I don't really want to sell it to a dealer, so I'd be interested in opinions and stories of people who have privately sold a car of similar value.
A big thanks for any advice you can give.
