Power steering pump problem

I must say I have no knowledge about car at all, but i am living i a country with very little service for Mini Cooper, hence I need to find out things by myself and hope to receive advises, helps from other members in this forum.

I have Mini Cooper 2004. Recently the car has some problem with power steering pump which sometimes it gets very stiff, I can not steer left or right, but only moving straight line. I have some mechanic doing diagnostic and there was a report of problem: distribution voltage is lower than minimum level.

Anyone know what can be the causes of this problem and how to fix it?

Thanks a lot.

Hi all members,

I am Maktub, 2004 generation mini. I am in Mozambique. I am happy to join the forum to meet and share experiences with other minis.

I am currently having problem with power steering wheel which it does not turn left or right but only able to move straight back and forth. There was diagnostic done and problem found was due to ''distribution voltage is lower than minimum level''.

Would appreciate very much anyone can tell me the causes and how to fix.

Cheers

cooling fan stays on

My friend has a 2007 mini N16 B16A with the cooling fan on constantly, even after switch off for about 5-10 minutes. I have tried swapping the relays in the fuse box but that didn't work. I want to replace the coolant sensor as when I plug my diagnostic tool in it says its 140 degrees all the time, (even when the engine is cold)
question is . . where is the sensor? is it built into the thermostat housing?

Matt.

Hi all, I've just joined up as I recently bought an 03 cooper s and I'm sure ill need some help or advice at some point.

I've bought it to use as a road/occasional track day car. It's a bit of an experiment for me as I've always been a rwd man but I have to say so far I've been impressed.

My clutch failed on me last month and when i took the battery out the slave clyinder had fully erected and then fell to bits after giving it a wiggle. So I'v half removed it and secured it as to not lose anymore of the fluids,

but the arm that it was meant to be pressed against is semi lose, i can with my fingers just clunk it back and forth with no real resistance,

Thinking of buying an auto MCS - reliable??

Hi,
Newbie here and looking for any advice with respect to our prospective purchase of a 1st generation MCS automatic - facelift version. Unfortunately my other half has issues with his left knee so it has to be auto. Just posting here to get views on what you guys think to how robust this auto box is generally. Were there any mechanical improvements with the gearbox with the introduction of the facelift version (or for that matter with the 2nd generation?). Or would it be far more sensible and wiser to buy an auto cooper instead?
Any thoughts more than welcome. Many thanks in advance.
Jayne :)

Genuine Spotlights not working - relay?

Hi all

I'm hoping you can help point me in the right direction.
I've searched many threads but not quite found the answer.

My driving lights/spotlights have stopped working.
The fuse is fine, and I am getting power to the lights.
The next thing I'd like to look at is the relay. Does anyone know it's location?

And does anyone have another idea on what I can check?

Many thanks in advance!

Mike

Very stiff steering after new power steering pump?

I have a mini one, 2004, which I have just had a power steering pump on as the the steering had suddenly gone very stiff. Fetched it from the garage and it was still doing same thing, going stiff then slacking. A few weeks before it had fitted a new steering rack and track rod ends for its MOT. The garage had if for a few days and said it was fine, it had been driven by three different people and that was how minis were. The pump also makes a wherr sound which it did not do before...

Hi All

I have been searching on the internet to see if I can find a list of what's actually included in the Media Pack & Chili Pack, but can't find an actual list anywhere!

Do any of you know what's actually included?

This is on a Cooper S Coupe 2012 model if that is relevant.

Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

Firstly, I apologise for posting in this section but there are so many sub sections and fields that I didn't know where to go!
Mods: please move me to a more appropriate place by all means
(just tell me where!)

Im after a replacement exhaust for my 2003 (53) Cooper S but don't want to spend £600+ which is what im being quoted!
The car still has its original so I have to replace the whole thing even though its gone near the rear (poor design!).

I'm happy to go for a stainless system as that seems to be whats available but want to keep the noise it makes as close to stock as possible!
Ive seen a few on fleabay for circa £280 but then I read things about them needing different hangers ect - is there not a direct replacement that wont cost me the price of a small country?!

What do you guys do?

Appreciate all help as I have no idea! At least I'm honest right?!

Andy

When checking my oil I cannot clearly see the oil level. Is there a safe coating of some kind to to put on the dipstick for better oil level visibility?

Relentless Battery Problems

Hey guys. My Fiance drives a base model 2006 Mini. A few days ago, she got in her car, drove it to the gas station. When she tried to crank it back up, the battery was dead. Someone was kind enough to jump her off and she drove it back home. A few hours later, it cranked right up and I went for a high RPM romp for a while to try and get the battery charged back up.

About two days later, the battery died again. I jumped the car off and she carried it to a Battery Specialty store because I had to go to work. She got a new battery installed, and while it was still a tad bit slow to start, it seemed to be okay. The next day the battery died again. I did some research and discovered the battery registery issue, and I read somewhere that if you leave the battery off the car for a while, with the battery on a charger of course, that it would reset the computer. I tried this and it did not work.

Today I was messing with the car and pushed the positive battery cable around a bit. The cable moved and I heard several things in the engine bay making noise. The car fired right up. I went for another high rpm romp and when I got back home I turned the car off. I tried to start it back up and it would not start at all. I took the cables off and then put them back on as securely as I could thinking that might have been the issue. It still will not crank without being jumped off.

When I try to crank it, the head lights flash. All interior electronics work flawlessly. I can jump it off, drive around for a while and it will be fine. Then when I try to crank it back up it will not start. The battery shop checked the alternator and said that it was fine.

Any ideas?

I was thinking of upgrading my r53 2 spoke steering wheel to a 3 spoke JCW alcantara one. I have the to also change the airbag however, and i was just wondering if the r56 one fits the r53.

Thanks
