hi chaps,i have a 53 plate cooper s jcw,but still using std cooper s calipers etc,now i know the best upgrade is to use the R56 calipers with the 54mm piston, easy to source with the carriers,(but dont try a breakers, they are way too expensive),anyway, what i need to know is what discs do i use??,ie what is the best size??,std 276mm,or bigger??,can anyone help please?,also,im thinking of putting on a sportex manifold which decats it?,then use a full sportex system to the back, what happens to the ecu when i decat it??

2005 Mini Cooper S - Water Pump?

$

Hi,

My 05 Mini Cooper S is suddenly using a lot of water, the other day whilst driving through several sets of traffic lights I heard a thumping noise under the bonnet and then the high temp light came on.

I pulled over and pondered what to do, thought I would check the water so very carefully removed the cap and it was very empty. Luckily I had some distilled water in my car so filled the tank to the max line and waited for it to cool off some more.

2 days later the same thing has happened.

Has anyone else had this happen and was it the water pump, that is what I'm thinking it could be.

Issue with high pressure pump and oil pump solenoid leaking

hi everyone,

i am new to the forum and i am posting elsewhere as well. I just took my "2011 Mini Countryman S" with 60k miles to the dealer after it started running crappily and i feel like these problems should be pervasive and could help others.

possibly we can even start a recall campaign as the solenoid issue could be a result of poor craftsmanship.

The car was throwing a bunch of error codes on the OBC like

<<

Multiple misfire detected
Cylinder 4 misfire
P0300, p0302 p0304
P0087 fuel rail system pressure too low

>>

All those problems were a result of my high pressure pump faulting. That could be a result of wear and tear. I also found out that previous mini models had issues with the pump faulting and there might have been some recalls as well, but my model has a newer pump. Guess what, that starts to fail now too :(

When the dealer opened the car, they also found that my oil pump solenoid is leaking oil into the wiring harness (the electrical system that plugs all over the engine). Damaging the wiring harness could short the computer and overall moisture and oil on that harness is bad.

I think the latter problem is a result of poor craftsmanship. the dealer wants 600 usd to replace the solenoid, but the wiring harness replacement is twice that amount.

have others gotten similar problems on their minis?

good luck everyone and drive safe.

First off I would take everyone who has supported me from the birth of the website to where we are now

The idea of the website was to showcase my travels and journey with shot of my humour & honesty

I haven't posted anything in a while due to my travels to the US to do MINI TAKES THE STATES and working fallout as now I have two jobs

I am account executive working on the Jaguar & Land Rover marketing and on the weekends I am your friendly Track Marshall at a Go karting track

CARS CAR CARS cant get enough of them

When I am not driving I have been helping friends and wider community with charity work

Its not everyday you abseil down a building dress up as Batman for the kids

This is no excuse of not for keeping you guys waiting but I felt I need to post something to say normal service will resume soon

I am taking days off work to finish for my current review of the F56 MINI COOPER S in the UK & USA

I have driven both manual and automatic on UK & USA roads with steering wheels on either side

Not many people can say that and they cant really say they have driven the F56 MINI COOPER S with JCW Tuning kit for 500 plus miles

Here is a little teaser of what's to come and thank you again for the likes, comments, follows, tag and all around love you give where every you are in the world

Serpentine belt snapped

Hi guys,

My serpentine belt snapped the other day leaving stranded, got it towed home and had a look around. The belt has frayed or split right down the middle and is in 3 pieces, looks a right mess. I can see the idler pulley has failed causing this, the pulley looks split in 2.

Ordered a new belt and pulley question is what else should I look out for when I jack it up and have a look? Would the belt snapping also damage the tensioner or crank pulley? Hope it didn't cause any other engine damage, coolant boiled over as I pulled over on the motorway.

Car is 2002 cooper S.

Thanks

Hi all, my daughter is the proud owner of a 07 mcs and I'm the lucky bloke who's got the job of looking after it :hmph:
She's owned it for about 18 months to be honest it's been troublesome at times :rolleyes:The most expensive part to date was a new high pressure fuel pump !
But it is a very exciting car to drive and build quality in general is excellent.
Changing the coolant this weekend and trying to find out why the heater is blowing cold air !

Just joined, so hello. Have been looking at Mini for a long time. Like all of them pretty much and have driven a couple, a first gen 2005 and then a 2011 in the last few years.

Actually got to drive a Mini Cooper several days in the UK way back in 1979. I remember the events well. The Mini was orange, and had a white top, and the steering wheel was in an odd location, but other than that, the car was perfect. Definitely a great experience since I already enjoyed small good handling cars, so that was a treat. I drove mostly the region East of England around Sculthorpe, which included Kings Lynn, Sandringham, Wells-next-the-Sea, Sheringham, Cromer and areas inland to Norwich and Thetford, among others. Hope I spelled all correctly.

I'm considering a Roadster, so I want to learn as much as I can about the modern BMW built versions. Will be lurking around some to pick up info and knowledge about these cars. I'll search for answers, but I'm sure I'll ask a few.

Living in Maine doesn't give me access to a MINI store, which will be a pain, I'm sure. Probably the only state in the union where there are no MINI dealerships? It's an unusual state, to say the least. Might be what makes living here so quaint?

Seems like you have a very good forum going here, from what little I've read so far, and hopefully I'll have a Mini in the garage at some point soon.

I've got a 2001 cooper and considering lowering it. 16"alloys and wondering what size springs i could get away with without it runbing on either the arches or the speed bumps. Was thinking of 40mm but not sure if this is too much? Any help please?

Loud engine noise when running

Hi there - I have a 2005 Mini (not S), 109000 miles (5 speed manual). Lately it has been making a LOUD humming noise when running. It does change pitch when turning as well. I have a short video of it at youtube - I'm not allowed to post links but if you go to youtu.be and put a /UMeMgqsqVZk after the .be you'll see it :)

My mechanic will take a look at it next week but he isn't a Mini specialist, so I was hoping someone here might have encountered this before. Is there anything you guys might be able to tell me about what might be making the noise? I thought steering pump and (fingers crossed it's not) transmission.

Thank you!

F56 MINI Challenge Car - AutoExpress review

While it starts life as a F56 MINI Cooper S road car, 120 hours of work turn it into a real racer. The interior is stripped out and a safety cage is welded in, while under the bonnet the standard engine gets an upgraded turbo and ECU, for an additional 86bhp (275 BHP), and is matched to a sequential racing gearbox.
The standard suspension parts remain, but it gets stiffer bushes, adjustable racing dampers and more aggressive camber, caster and ride-height settings. With no ABS or servo assistance, the upgraded brakes are pure motorsport.
All of which ensures the MINI Challenge feels stiff, pointy and every bit the real racer. The sequential gearbox means you can bang each upshift home without lifting the throttle, and there’s plenty of feel through the brake pedal, too. There’s also enough adjustment available to fine-tune the chassis set-up.
Price: £34,950
The 2015 MINI Challenge starts next spring, and takes place over seven meetings with three races per weekend.

New Battery

Needed a new on my Cooper S and was pleasantly surprised to find the MINI dealer was actually the best price - Halfords did a cheap battery for about £4 less, but I figured for £4 the MINI version would be better

I was also surprised to find a warning light showing the status of the battery which had been hidden by the metal strap that holds the battery in place!!

If you also need a new battery check the official dealer prices, you might be pleasantly surprised

It's weekend enjoy you all.......

Hi
I always drive bangers in uk. 25th wedding anniversary I bought wife a Mini Cooper cos that was what she wanted and it was to compensate for all years I spent in pub.

It was a nice kart like drive and I thought one less car I have to work on and spend money fixing. Happy days in November 2010! Zoom fwd to November 2014. Warranty had fixed a broken hatch release and a squeaky front window. 1st service after warranty, just a "Little oil leak" on solenoid control valve said the very pleasant service man. Oh bugger I thought, that'll cost! £2144!!!!!!! Needs new harness and ecu(DME) cos both contaminated with oil and the ordinal valve (which has a £2 oring). They will pay the parts leaving me with a bill for £578. I have left it for a few weeks to get used to the idea of spending that much when I usually buy cars at that price:). Yesterday fan stayed on after engine switched off. Googling led me to the coolant temperature display which shows squat. It's either ecu, sensor or the wiring.... Off to dealer to pay them my Xmas beer Money now:) just hoping ecu fixes the temp sensor issue! Or it may be new thermostat as well cos mine doesn't have the housing with replaceable sensor aaaggghhhhh. Forgive the rant, it's just I feel little Xmas cheer with this at the moment, ironic that I live in the town that makes mini panels:)

Coolant temperature sensor

Hi
Yesterday wife came running in after coming home from work asking me to listen to car. Fan was running with car off I tried to disconnect connector but couldn't get it apart didn't want to pull too hard in case I broke it. Anyway it went off after 10 mins so I came in and fired up google.

I vfound that with some button pushes I could display the coolant temperature on the mini display, but it showed xxxxoC? I took for drive to get some petrol and fan ran when I stopped to fill up.

Then went for drive and suddenly the temp display showed 80oC steadily rising to 92 before I stopped. The fan didn't stay on that time. On way home display had reverted back to xxxxoC and when I stopped fan ran again. My guess is cts is bad, so I bought one (with metal clip to hold in to thermostat housing).

Problem is my housing doesn't have this type, does anyone know whether there is a different type of cts available. I rang dealer and the man was a bit confused said he couldn't find it on the diagram, so I would have to replace thermostat at £114 and install a y cable. The other cts I bought cost £17! Please tell me I don't have to spend another £114... I am just about to fork out over £550 for other stuff incl ecu (which I am hoping will fix this issue):aargh:
