I May Have Your Key + Fob, see pic USA

Got this key with my 2012 Coupe and its not for my car. My buddy runs the dealership and gave me a great deal (not a Mini dealer), so I wasn't trying to bother him with the cost of a new key. Take a close look at the cut part of the key in the photo and compare it to yours. I even replaced the battery.

My car was on the East coast but who knows where this one is from. Maybe the last owner got it on Ebay thinking an easy fix. I wish it was that easy. Think its yours?- send me $3 for postage and cross your fingers.

R56 DVD satnav - constantly accessing disc

$

Hello all,

My recently acquired 2010 R56 Cooper S has the DVD based satnav (with the LCD screen in the middle of the speedo). Now, it seems that it's constantly accessing the disc as I can hear the read head happily skimming backwards and forwards. Is it supposed to do that? I would have thought that as it's only being driven locally, it should have enough internal memory so it doesn't have to go to disc the whole time. But what do I know.

Any thoughts, oh knowledgeable ones?

Cheers,

Plug

PS I should say the Satnav seems to work absolutely fine..

Have an 08 MCS. I have the code PO128 which is coolant temp below regulating temp. Most days this would be a change the thermostat type of repair. I have change the thermostat several time and the code still persists. Car in running at operating temps. Checked the wiring connections to the ect sensor and the thermostat heater. Continuity tested wire all the way back to the dme/ecu. Kinda stuck. Next course of action would be to have the dme repaired? Any help would be appreciated

Thanks, Jeff

Bike Rack and Hitch for Cooper S

Hey all,
Just thought I’d share the first thing I got my mini this summer. I bought my Cooper S without giving a thought about how I’d get my MTB to the trails. I couldn’t find a bike rack that was compatible with the spoiler and I didn’t want to go with a roof rack. After searching around I found that torkliftcentral.com has a hidden hitch for the gen 3 Cooper S. I had Mini of Rochester do the install (about $300) but it was worth it
seeing how I’m not mechanically inclined to remove the bumper and notch the trim. I’ve used the hitch on about 5 MTB trips so far and it’s worked great. Here’s some pics.

Oil Cooler Gaskets Problem

$

Hi All, I've just done an oil and filter change on my '03 car, and decided to change the oil cooler gaskets at the same time. I had what I thought were the OEM replacement seals, both round, with a square cross-section, but very different from the gaskets that came out, which were oval, still a square cross-section, but the replacements didn't fill the grooves up nearly as much as the old. I reasoned that maybe the much harder old seals hd becom eset in the oval shape, but now I'm not so sure.

Is this a known problem?

Anyway, bolted the cooler back on, came to start the engine and the oil was dribbling out of the joint!
Drained the oil down again and took the cooler off, and sure enough one of the gaskets was split. I don't know if it had jumped out of the slot as I tried to do it up, but I ended up having to revert back to the old oval gaskets with a good smearing of silicone gasket sealant to make sure (I know, not recommended!). At least now it is sealed up again - not sure how much it was leaking before tho' to be fair.

Cooling Fan running 24/7

Hey guys!

I've been struggling with this problem since june... I drove to my home turned ignition off, took off the key and I heard fan running I was like... OK Its fine. Then later I comeback and my car wouldnt start!
This fan was running for serveral hours draining power from battery, and from that time it runs 24/7 with or without key no matter if its hot or cold.

Any ideas?

I checked R3 and R4 relays using resistance meter and I got no reading. I also checked relays on R3/R4 socket in the fuse box (DC voltage) and it seems fine, I have photos if you want.

Steering fan is not seized its running.

Also my radiator fan runs on second gear always. I want to install aftermarket fans but I cant because of this!

Any ideas?

Newbie Q Airbag Controller

Hi all.
Many apologies if I've posted in the wrong place or not quiet filled out enough info.
I hope there are some wiser than I people on here who can help me out.

I have a 53 plate mini cooper s 1.6.

The air bag light is on. Ive bought a gadget to remove it, fiddled with the connections underneath the seats and still it glows at me.

There seem to be 2 faults Fo on internal controller and passenger side bag.

I've lifted the centre console and the internal controller isn't there.
My questions I suppose are, where the heck is the airbag controller and should I be attempting this?

Hi, my key in my mini cooper 54 plate has stopped working to remotely lock and unlock the car, it still starts the car and manually locks but not remotely, the key is a sealed unit so i don't know if it's as simple as just changing the battery.

No external media

Hi,

I've just acquired a 2010 Clubman Cooper and have discovered that the bluetooth (phone) aux and USB features do not work (although the USB charges my phone ok). Radio is fine. I've been advised by my local Mini specialists that I'll probably need to replace the unit at massive cost, but I was hoping someone has also experienced this and has found a fix? Failing that, perhaps an external bluetooth sensor could allow me to run my android for audio etc?

Clunk....Now and Then

My wife has a 2012 Mini Cooper D with a factory fitted John Cooper works body kit, steering wheel and seats plus just about every little extra.
At the moment mileage is around 35,000. Quite low as it is a second car.

Recently I was driving and detected a clunk sound when pulling away. Having some experience with 'spannering' on cars and motorcycles I was sure it was drive shaft related. Especially after renewing a rear drive shaft on my Honda S2000. Anyway, same day we get a puncture on a front tyre but managed to get home before it went completely flat. Next day I had the tyre repaired and reset the pressure monitor. Oddly, the clunk sound disappeared and I wondered if it was ABS related? That was two weeks ago.

Yesterday, my wife came home and told me the clunk sound when releasing the clutch has returned. Today it has gone again.

I would be grateful if anyone can suggest a place to look for the fault. Obviously not a drive shaft as it would be doing it all of the time.

Thanks in anticipation.....

Hello All,

I've just bought a 2002 Cooper S though it's supposed to be for my son who wants to learn to drive a manual (he already has an auto licence). Whilst he's learning I get to use it and I am thrilled each time I pick up the key.

Rear Centre Console USB Ports?!

Hello all, just received my Countryman yesterday, so haven't had all that much time to look at it and figure things out yet.

However, thought would be an excuse to post and say Hi. I noticed and is shown in the manual, that there is a "double USB socket" in the rear centre console....however, these aren't your standard type A sockets. Looks more like micro USB or even type C. Anyone know for sure and can confirm?

Slack in chain drive for oil pump, how much ?

First of all a big thank you to Mike.
Your method on locating the looking position of the flywheel with 2 x 9” rods worked a treat.
When the timing chain developed an issue it must have jumped dislocated as it was quite a bit out with the camshafts, lucky nothing bend or broke. I got my daughters car fully together again and wanted just to clear out the sump as a few pieces of plastic from the guide went missing.

I notices when taking the chain cover of from the oil pump the chain seems t9 have quite a bit of play, halfway between the sprockets it moves roughly half an inch. Is this normal ?
Or should it be as tight as the timing chain ?

Car is a 10 plate Cooper N16 engine and has done just 70k. Seems also that some nutty before me has taken the sump of , of course the **** has scraped the edges and most likely has not used the proper sealant Loctite as the stuff has backed badly on the pan and the engine block, have been polishing this morning with a wedge of wood, an old jeans rag and brake cleaner for nearly 2 hours as the stuff he has put on was solidly backed on.

BTW Mike I have the same issues regarding eye sight, best thing is a green smoothie diet seems to slow down the process. Just one of the things that happens when you appreciate a good meal and a bottle of wine more than ...

Roof Bars Question

Anyone think or has removed the roof bars that come with the car is worth it? Is it easy to do and will it reduce the air drag by ever so much and gain a tiny bit of efficiency?

Also have to wonder how much it will change the look of the car. Don't really have much use for them though.
