Looking for JCW from Manchester

Hi all!!

I'm looking for my first mini, i had a little drive in a friends cooper S a few weeks ago and i absolutely loved it! I was searching for a GT86 at the time and he suggested it and i'm really excited to get behind the wheel of one now! I currently own a Nissan 350z, ive had the car about four years now but i need something with four seats with lower running costs.

I think i have my ideal car in mind...

R56 year 2009 - 2012 (think this is the factory John Cooper Works) someone may be able to correct me. Its the one with the good differential and the most power?

Prefer the darker plastics (not silver) on the center console
leather (faux or lounge)
must have the media screen
Harmon Kardon sound
must have a pan roof
Xenon lights
either red or white body colour

Hope to get one at the start of summer!

Mini sunroof and speedo woes !

Hi all,

had an issue with my 2002 Mini. The battery was almost devoid of charge, so my frined rescued me with his starter booster pack. It wouldn't turn over as the booster was also low !
So we left that conneted and loweded the bonnet and pushed it to bump start, which it did.

However, I now have electrical issues :eeksurprise:::frown::

Sun roof doesn't work.

Air bag light is on (EML also was on but that has gone off)

Lights and indicators work, but the blue and green flashing lights on the speedometer, and the clicking sound when signalling do not work !!

I've checked all the fuses in the foot well.

Any other suggestions. I'm maybe thinking that there was a short when the bonnet was down, maybe touching the terminals on the booster pack ?

any help suggestions greatfully received.:red::)

Hey guy's,

I'd like my Door arm rests covered in grey Alcantara, to match my R56 JCW Recaro seats.
Who do you guy's use for top quality work like this?
I want someone who does a really good job.
I'm happy to post if nobody you recommend is local to the West Midlands.

Cheers

Hi all,

I have a 2005 Cooper S cabrio for some years now and I just bought another MINI: a Countryman Diesel. Completely different, but fun as well.
The Countryman is fairly basic, so I'll need to make it a bit nicer.
Will look in this forum and other internet sources for ideas and how-to's...

Trying to update ICE/Connected software

Hi,

I've checked my version of software on ICE/Connected and it says:

Multimedia MX-003.004.031
Telephone TX-003.004.031

Looking at the Mini website I can see theres a few updates at levels:

MX-3.5.4, TX-3.5.8
TX-2.6.6
MX-1.12.0

To me these don't add up, theres no similarity between what I have and whats being suggested I download.

Does anyone have any ideas or help for me to understand this please. I guess I need to know if I download the file onto a USB, will it upgrade when I plug it into the car!?

Oil pump chain rattle

Friend brought his daughters mini round said it had a replacement chain done by previous owner 2000 miles ago
Problem is it has a rattle. Similar to a timing chain noise. Car has done 120,000 is there a possibility this could be the oil pump chain that's causing the noise or one of the auxiliaries running off the belt

3 button key problems

Hi
I've got 2 keys with my Mini and one of them has suddenly decided to not unlock and lock with its buttons, It works fine just as the key itself no problems there..
I decided to take it apart assuming its going to be the battery yet when testing it there's over 3v there :puzzled: so basically i never changed its battery.. I tried using a rocket blower to clean any dust on it whilst it was apart.

I had previously regularly used the troublesome key so its had plenty charge ( which 3V backs up ) and had been working fine previously, the key that works and i have to use now is a bit tatty missing its Mini badge but basically i want them both working again.

I've read about the turn key to position click one take it out press hold unlock then click lock 3 times yet with my working remote key or non working i never get any response like its supposed to do.. any other suggestions ? I have disconnected the car battery once or twice doing work yet why would that possible effect one key and not the other so assuming thats not related yet im mentioning it just incase :D

timing chain FAI full kit change 1.4 mini cooper

Petrol (N12 - Motronic MEV 172 - MT/AT) DTC Description
2891 - Crankshaft / inlet camshaft, synchronization - Permanent
2870 - VANOS inlet, flank adaptation - Permanent
287D - VANOS inlet camshaft, tight or jammed - Permanent
F

the above is a scan with autocom after timing chain replacement after top guide cracked off fell down to bottom sprocket and seized crankshaft solid,, after car was started and eml codes delete the can ran perfectly for a hour then it kept getting 287d vanos tight jammed code and stall on idle,,
the other codes were induced by moving the inlet cam to check the vanos was working correctly or was jammed or tight,, after working the cam back and forwards i restarted car and seems to have cleared it idles perfectly,, so make me wonder about the new inlet vanos sprocket being faulty in the future or just a bit tight on start up,,,either way it proves one point, that is if adaptation is out the autocom with detect it as above for vvt and vanos,
we phones bmw and asked for a price for one vanos inlet sprocket it told us £330 just for one,, just bought the FAI kit for £225 complete and normally they seem ok,, we also have found a number of broken breather pipes to cause issues after working on chain replacements do to be in way of chain tension-er and they crack and you cant see, so easy to blame the timing chain job as why it wont run right and idle etc,, buy some rubber pipe ID 21mm and two jubilee clips will fix the problem but in a inlet manifold off job worth doing,,
added point only try and rotate the camshaft when all fore pistons are in the middle of travel otherwise could bend things

2005 Cooper S R52 Automatic - gearbox issue?

$

Hey all,

Recently got mum a 2005 Cooper S convertible as a runaround car, and aside from needing break pads and minor niggles it had been OK.

Last weekend, about 200 miles since purchase (it has done around 55000 miles total) I was driving her on a local road, tried to accelerate to 60 and something went wrong - the revs shot up and the speed dropped (so we were doing about 5000rpm at 30mph!). I put the hazard lights on and tried manual mode but couldn't get it to move up a gear and pulled off at a roundabout around 200 metres down the road. I don't panic (thanks to pharmaceuticals) but mum despite being a passenger was terrified!

Since then it's been to a local mechanic friend but he's a bit scared of it. He's changed the gearbox fluid which he said absolutely stunk and cleared all diagnostic codes but that's all he's able to do.

So - I'm wondering what people suggest?

Is the 2005 Cooper S R52 with paddle shift a CVT or an automated manual gearbox?

Is this something that anyone else has had?

Cheers all!

P0130 and p2243 codes

$

Both codes on the mini seem to point to the lamda sensor before the cat
Bought the car needing a timing chain and suspect the sensor has been affected by unburnt rich fuel
Running the engine is rough because of this. I was going to put some cat clean in the tank with about 10 litres of fuel Remaing to try and clear it out.
But am now thinking this might do more damage to a rough running engine so replacing the sensor may be the better option
Where is the best place to get the pre cat lambda sensor from

Hello everyone, I was helping if you could give me an idea from this limited video as to what's wrong with this 2006 petrol mini non-S. It won't start and sounds like this. Battery is fine.

There's probably more information you may want so happy to provide.

Any helps and comments appreciated.
