New WIPAC lights - wiring help please

$

Hi,

I just bought a set of four WIPAC spotlights for my R50. They came with all the mounting brackets, and two wiring kits with 4-pin relays. The wiring kits also have an inline 15-amp fuse fitted to the wire for the connection to the battery.

Having read all the instructions and had a look online, I'm happy with where all the wires on the relays are supposed to go, but it's making the actual connections I'm unsure about. The wires have a plug on one end for connecting to the relay (so all good there) but the other ends are bare and there are a selection of little plug-ends of different types (see photo).

I'm no electrician so I'm not entirely sure what each kind is for. Are there equivalent sockets for them on the car? Or do I just pick whichever is best and tape it up afterwards?

Also, the instructions mention a Live and and Earth on the lights, but as you can see in the photo they only have the one wire coming out. I'm guessing that's the Live and I just connect an earth to the metal housing around where it joins the bracket?

To give an idea of my skill, I can confidently change a plug socket or light switch, I've just never done anything like this on a car before.

Coolant

Hi all, I’ve recently purchased a 2002 Mini Cooper and after covering nearly 1000 miles I’ve noticed the heaters have gone cold and cooling fan is kicking in more than it should.
Topped the coolant up and bled the system all ok after 2 or 3 days same again top up and bled the system but added some uv dye as there is no sign of a leak at all.
The result is an electrical connector is showing bright green under uv light it is located under the exhaust manifold next to the oil filter housing leading me to believe this is the oil pressure switch?

The question is how would coolant get on an oil pressure switch and nowhere else?

TPMS problems

Hi everyone,
I am a new member of te forum, i am proud to be here. I hope you can help me :)

i am having problems with the TPMS of my 2002 mcs r53.
i have checked tyre pressure and reseted the system, then i drive a few kilometers and the light turns on.

It occurs faster in a hot day (about whitin 2 kilometers), in a cold day i can drive 40 kilometeres without the problem.
I dont know if there is any temperature sensor in the system that may be faulty.

I know this version of TPMS uses the abs sensors to work, there is not any abs fault in the car so my dubt is if any abs sensor may be faulty.

Do you have any expiriences with this problem?

18 plate 3 dr cooper : My speedo revcounter isn't straight but is tilted to left

Bought an 18 plate mini cooper demo a few weeks back and the speedo is definitely about 4 degrees tilted down to left hand side : can you people with similar models check if this is the case with yours. I took it back to the supplying dealer and they were very good and removed it and then tried to put it back straight but alas it could not be levelled out. Its drives me mad and I find it distracting. I have tried other 18 plate hatches and half seeem to be straight and half tilt to left as does mine. Car is going into another dealer on monday for a possible speedo swap just to see if fittings to rear of speedo are making it tilt. Any suggestions ? Firstly line your steering wheel uo to 12 oclock on a clock face and then compare the 80 on the speedo : mine is about 11.55 not 12 . When you call someone the blue line makes it obvious things aren't straight, as does the orange horizontal line. Advices and comments awaited thanks.

hi all im new to the forum i'm having a lot of trouble with my sisters cooper

it got delivered on the back of an aa truck after it cut out on the motorway the aa said it was a crank sensor
I plugged into the car with my laptop/Delphi and got a lot of codes mainly relating to throttle pots and pedal pots ,and power failures after abit of digging I found that the ecu plug was full off oil.i replaced the solenoid in the oil pump that was passing oil up the cable into the ecu and replaced the ecu and programmed as it was recommended .
codes were
2b4a
2b4d
2bd2
2fc2
2b0b
2b01
2b06
2bd3
2bd4
2856

a lot of codes which I why I was convinced broken cable etc

any way the car still does not run so I decided to compression test it as I could hear it popping back into the exhaust like a valve was down .

my results are 75psi,75,psi,75 psi and 110psi these seem really low I am carring out test with inlet manifold off at the moment

any ideas ?

Hi From A (Returning) Newbie

Just wanted to say a big hi to everyone out there in Mini2 land.

I've had to create a new account, although I did have one before.

I'm returning to the Mini fold later this week, although it's not my first. Been away for about 8 years. Before that, had a One Seven, Cooper, and finally a Dooper.

Had a few different cars since, but this Thursday (hopefully) I pick up a 2013 Cooper SD. Test driving last week, it felt great to be back!

I'm over in SE England, so I'll look out for any member near me.

Now to catch up on what I've missed out on.......!

Timing chain ?

Hi Guys,
Hope you can help me. I've done a few trips in the car today and now all of a sudden it won't start. It try's to turn over but it wont. Had the AA man out to help but he looked in the oil cap and said the top of the engine isn't turning when trying to start the car. So the timing chain has either snapped or come off. Could this just happen after turning the car off.

Is this a common fault with these.

It has been making a noise when staring lately but only for about 2 seconds but I just thought it was where oil hadn't got to the top of the engine.

If it is the chain what sort of price am I looking at to get it fixed.

Water leak

Driving the cooper, non turbo and stopped outside house and notice water leaking under the drivers side of the engine towards the back.
Without checking am I looking at a new water pump. Cant think of any hoses in that area unless it's the water pump yo thermostat housing plastic hose
Do the water pumps on these fail dumping the coolant out

Engine Timing? N14

Hi Eveyone,

Despite having a new fuel pump and some other parts (which helped it run smoother on power) my R56 with N14 engine still has a rough idle. That is not to say I get rev fluctuations, only that the engine vibrates more than I think it should giving slight hickups here and there. Better when warm but never 100% gone. It bugs me!

After reading about Vanos problems and finding a description that matches my symptoms I changed the Vanos solenoid to no effect. Now I want to check engine timing / chain.

Today I put the cams in upright position (TDC, or it could be crank at 180°) and placed a ruler on each of the the square sections where the locking tool usually goes. I took a photo with camera on a static tripod so I can compare intake and exhaust angles. I seem to have about 2.9° difference. See photo. I'm unsure if this is advance or retard?

Anyway, I wanted to confirm that this is not normal, is it? The resting position should have both cams with the square sections exactly aligned, correct?

Just counted the Vanos gear to have 40 teeth, so 9°/tooth. It's not slipped a tooth. Simply a worn chain or lack of tension?

I also checked the Vanos seals that feed oil from cam to Vanos. I read they are rubber on some BMWs and can wear out but mine seem to be steel.

Also I put a spanner on the intake cam and found I was able to move it slightly against the spring of the Vanos gear. It wasn't 'easy' but it was possible with one hand. Video below. Is this normal? I read somewhere it should not be possible to rotate the cam... but the Vanos is a sprung gear.

Insight appreciated!

Countryman 1.6d burning oil

Hi all, a month or so ago my 2011 countryman diesel started to loose power at low rpm and wouldn't rev then all of a sudden the turbo would kick in and it would go.
Yesterday big plooms of white smoke came out the back which gets worse under hard acceleration, this time though no loss of power? We were about 5 mile from home so limped back but after 2 miles or so the smoke went.
I checked the oil and it was bone dry when we got back, no warning lights came on (not even the oil).
Filled it with oil and seams to be fine now but still looses power, any ideas what this could be?

Front Plastic slam Panel / Rad Mount.

Is the front slam panel radiator housing the same for all models of Mini2 or is it variant dependant?

Upholstery cleaner?

Does anyone recommend an upholstery cleaner to use on fabric? Specifically the seats in a 2010 MCS. Carbon black seats looking their age - would like to freshen them up. Spray on / towel up type application - I don't have a suck-n-blow vacuum sadly...

Thanks!
