Hello. I have a 2002 Mini hatchback, my daughter's car actually, which I regret to say was not properly maintained while she was in college. (It was bought in 2007, basically on ebay.) I am trying to make up for that neglect, and have spent many thousands of dollars in it in the last 9 months. Current issue: the weather stripping around the hatch is leaking when it rains. I had to have a major computer part replaced in the summer because a window was left partially open during a heavy storm, nearly killed the car, so I am very sensitive to moisture issues. My question is: is replacing that weather stripping something that my brother and I could do or do I need to take it to a body shop? I will only have the mechanics of the car worked on by a Mini dealer now, after several bad experiences elsewhere, what about something like this hatch gasket or weather stripping. Is it specialized enough to pay dealership shop prices? Thanks.
