Mini Cooper Can bus problem

Morning all,

My wife's mini has developed another problem, annoyingly just as the MOT runs out!!

There is an intermittent issue with the instrument cluster, the speedo stops working, the temp gauge goes to maximum and various warning lights go on...

So, we took it in to BMW for an hours diagnostic work and they reported the following;

- Perform vehicle test, check fault memory found various faults stored for DME, DSC, instrument cluster CAN faults.
- Perform vehicle diagnosis - test module delete fault memory to clear extensive list, road test to fault and rechecked fault memory after...fault list considerably narrowed down. Checked wiring to DME, OK, checked wiring to body control unit, OK, no water ingress. Checked wiring to DSC control unit, OK.
- Checked resistance of CAN bus, found intermittently high reading, further CAN bus diagnosis required to find root cause. Wiring checks to CAN bus is next step.

In order to save some cash I am going to attempt to find the poor connection myself...

Has anyone come across this type of issue before or can anyone give me any tips to sort this?

Seen an R53 but it's got close to 150k, it's had new clutch etc but still a lot, it's cheap enough but has it got much life left it in? Thanks

Good afternoon one and all!

I'm a new owner of a mini cooper convertible in horizon blue, 2010 with chilli pack and I love it!:kiss:

I am a bit stuck on how to play my music though so any assistance that can be provided would be appreciated!:nerd:

There is a usb port and audio cable input. I've tried a memory stick, iphone and ipod, before and and after starting the car and each time, the usb is "empty". I seem to be able to slot the usb in both ways round, is that normal?:confused:

Looking forward to hearing from anyone who can help as the only "glitch" I have with my fab new motor - thank you in advance!0:)

1.4 diesel Mini Cooper loosing coolant HELP!!!!!

My problem began 2 weeks ago. I have never really had to top up my coolant levels - I had my MOT and they informed my my coolant level was empty/low. I was very surprised, they topped it up and I thought all would be OK, 2 days later my car overheated and there was no water left in the tank. I took it to a garage who checked water pump/ did a pressure test and changed the thermostat. 2 days later it did he same again. I took it back to a garage and they did a head gasket sniff test.this came back negative - my mini is still loosing water/coolant. Very irregularly - sometimes I fill up the coolant before starting my journey and sometimes will overheat after 10 miles, by sometimes I can go for 150 miles with no problem. I have been taking water with me everywhere and keep topping up. There are no leaks, we have had it parked in a garage for 2 days and had it up on ramps etc.

Also the heaters sometimes go hot/cold/hot/cold when on the hottest setting. Anybody have any suggestions? I'm thinking heater matrix or and air lock?

There is also no internal leak (passenger footwell). Also where are / how do you bleed a diesel mini engine? Can somebody please shed some light on this situation! Any help appricaited! Thanks

Just bought my first mini

I just bought a 2001 mini cooper with only 65k on the clock.

My question is the leather sports seats are quite tatty and I want to cover them up but I cant find anywhere that sells covers?

Please help. Everything about the car is great but the front seats are a real letdown.

Bought a 2012 cooper s coupe from mini through there cherished used cars bought it with 49k on the clock was about 2 1/2 years old warranty ran out 2 months ago typical only done around 4k since i bought it lots of london short driving, engine management light came on and stated reduced power took to mini was told i had low compression in number two now I'm told i need a new engine and its going to cost nearly me 4k to fix with after a goodwill gesture. Is this a common problem am i being conned? why can't they fix it? Anyone have any knowledge?

Quick check on harness required for R52

Hi all -- first post! I'm just replacing the head unit in an R52 we just picked up with a Sony DSX-A60BT. I didn't check which connections the existing unit had, and think I got the wrong advice in Halfords. Was given a round pin harness adapter, where I think I need a flat pin (photo of in-car connection attached, sorry for the blur).

I think the Autoleads PC2-75-4 is right? Can't post URLs yet ..

And while I'm here -- when taking off the pillars to either side of the console holding the radio there are plastics inserts that hold the screws in. What are they called and can I pick up extras anywhere?

I'd take a picture but ... :redface: Guess we all have to start somewhere!

P0642 Code after Crankshaft Pos. Sensor o-ring replaced

I replaced the O-Ring on the Crankshaft Position Sensor and the Aircon. Compressor Clutch Coil, the Aircon works.
I am in Limp Home Mode with the EML, Traction Control and Tire Inflation lights all on.
I took to a garage which reset the faults but returned a P0642 code which means Sensor REf Voltage Low.
Did I break a wire or the Crankshaft Position Sensor Plug?
Do I have to take to the local service place and pay $350 for them to take look at it?
Or can I fix it myself?

My car is an R58 2012 Cooper-s Coupe vin T139713 (SX32).

Can anyone tell me the part numbers for front and rear brake pad kits. The rotors are the plain undrilled ones with no crosscut.

I ask because there seem to be numerous alternatives.

hiya everyone,im wondering if anyone on here has had the same fault that occurs every now and then,i have a 53 plate jcw and every now and then my dsc light comes up and i have a distinct lack of power,turn ign off,start her up again and alls well,but it does come back,has anyone on here had that prob??,would be nice to know?

6 speed conversion

Newbie to mini ownership here.
Purchased a 51 plate for me and my daughter and the bearings in the midlands box are gone (knew prior to buying).
Anyhow I looked and found that it can be converted to 6 speed so I've picked up a 6 speed from a cooper s.
I've saw a few different posts but there seams to be a difference in the parts lists.
So am I right in thinking I need (all from a cooper s) flywheel, starter motor, gearbox mount, gear linkages & driveshafts.
I'll fit a new clutch & slave as don't see the point in fitting second hand one.

2F42 Engine Ventilation Heating System

Missus has got a 2007 mini cooper 1.6 which has been causing afew problems. I recently fixed the lambda sensor and now I've got a new fault code: 2F42 Engine-ventilation heating system

Can some please help advise me on what might be the issue.

Good day,
I live in Trinidad, and am considering buying a used R56 Dooper. It's the only one on the island, and has done about 39,000kms...here's my concern: Our local diesel his of a very poor quality, high in both sulfur and particles, as well as some stations occasionally give us free water with our diesel :-/
Many vehicles have had issues with our diesel, including Audis, to the point where Audi no longer sells diesel SUVs in Trinidad....some of the new Ford Ranger pickups are now having issues as well, mainly premature fuel pump wear and occasionally injector damage.
So, my questions are:
does anyone know how susceptible the PSA engines are to damage from poor diesel?
How expensive is a new diesel fuel pump (if I just want to keep one as a spare)
