Camshaft locking tool to borrow?

Hi,

my sons Mini JCW is slowly going back together. It's been a nightmare due to us not taking the engine apart so we have had many questions like, which bolt do you think fits that?, where due you think that bracket/wire/pipe goes? :big_grin:
We now need the specalised camshaft locking tool to time the engine, is there anyone in the North East of England that has this tool that would be willing to lend it to us?
It is available on Ebay but we are looking at around 3-4days delivery and we are impatient itching to have our first drive of what promises to be a really exciting car.

What kind of button is this? Im thinking of placing an oil catch can there and the screw is used by that button!

1. How do i select the best oil catch can for my needs? I don't want anything too expensive not something cheap. So what should the best oil catch can be?
2. Where is the best place in the engine bay to install it and how is that done?

Mini know it all needed

I bought a used 2004 mini with a new transmission, but it needed programmed, when I got the car it had the EP mode, I bought a INPA and cleared all the codes, and the adaptations it now has the XP. I have been trying to do the adaptations several times and I can not get the X to disappear. I followed the procedures to a T, anyone know what else I can do or what the problem could be? Thank you.

Best fluid for transmission

What is the best MTL for the 6-speed? I am considering going to GM Sychromesh Friction Modified MTF as it did a fantastic job smoothing the shifts in an older higher-mileage EF Civic I had years ago, but I am always looking for suggestions. I have also heard that a heavier weight fluid works well, such as the MT-90 stuff from Redline. I ran the MT-90 in an EP3 Civic I had in 2005, and I never had a shifting issue with that one either, but it was a low mile car as well.

Mini Cooper D R56 juddering when accelerating - help needed please!!

Hello,
I've had a 58 plate mini for a few months and seem to be having nothing but problems and really need some advice please :(
A few weeks after I bought the car it had to go back to have the dpf light checked and a broken seal on the turbo replaced. Since then I've also had to have the wishbone bushes replaced.
The dpf light did still come on very occasionally but I just drove it like the manual stated and it went out.
The past week it has been juddering and struggling when I accelerate but yesterday was awful to the point I thought the car would stop. The only way I can describe it is if you were running out of fuel, the car jumps and lurches and has no power. When it does this I've also heard a sort of metal clanking sound when it jumps. Then it seems ok for a while. There are no warning lights coming on when it does this.
Put some injector cleaner in yesterday to see if that helped and ended up having aa breakdown out.
His computer registered two faults - 41c4 particulate filter clogged and 4530 boost pressure control deviation. He said the car could be struggling to regenerate because of the codes and it could be juddering as it tries to. He cleared the faults and took it for a road test. Came back and said it drove perfect, checked the computer again and there were no faults.
Thought everything was fine until 10 mins into a journey this morning and the juddering started again!! :( No warning lights again either.
Heard about dpf cleaner so thought I'd give that a try - gave it a good long run after putting it in and everything seemed ok and it ran lovely.
Went out again this afternoon and the juddering was there again but not as bad and only happened a few times :(
Really need some advice on what the issue could be as I'm getting worried that it's something serious and very confused????? Thanks

Electrics problems

Hi have an r50 cooper2002. Having various electric problems. Brake lights sometimes don't work. Abs and tyre pressure warning lights come on and off. Speedo stopped working then started again. If I use remote to lock car windows drop and sunroof opens. Suspect bc1. Looking to replace with a 2nd hand unit. Have read various threads and am confused.

Do I replace just bc1 or do I replace all ecu's keys locks etc. any advice welcome

Roof Rack for 2015 4 door hardtop

I just received my 2015 Mini 4 door hard top. I ordered it with every bell and whistle but forgot one thing... the roof or cargo rack. I have 2 kayaks that I need to haul around and it appears no one has a clue as what to do about installing one. I check all three Mini dealerships and most 3rd party.

My old 2006 had an authorized Mini aftermarket installed at the dealership, drilled into the roof. Any such accessory in the works from Mini? How can I find out?

Any ideas?

Countryman - Unlocking boot from button on remote.

Hi All. Is it just me or do all Countryman remote (boot opening/unlocking) buttons not do anything. I have two remotes and neither of the boot buttons work.
I asked at the dealer and they said it will work from inside the car, but no it doesn't. Perhaps it's for motorised boot opening which I don't have?

I'm new to forum so any help would be greatly appreciated. Bought a mini ones 2002 and power steering pump has gone :-( have seen some advertised on eBay lifetime warranty unlimited mileage for £160 any thoughts to help me decide ??? Also the airbag light has just decided to come on and am unsure what to do ??

Second engine replacement

I have a new generation 2014 Cooper S (2 litre twin turbo engine) and have had it from new (March '14). After about 6 months we noticed that the clutch wasn't returning to position once it had been pressed. Took it back to the garage to investigate and they could find nothing wrong with it. Got the car home to find it was still doing the same thing so returned to the garage for further testing. This time they managed to replicate the fault and told us it would require a full engine replacement - on a car that was by this point 9 months old with 7000 miles on it. Reluctantly agreed and the work was completed, but the car was definitely lacking some of its previous umph.
6 months down the line, the clutch has developed the same fault again! And Mini are recommending an engine replacement! Now is it just me or should a car that's 15 months old)old/12000 miles not require not 1, but 2 full engine replacements?
We've been told today to place a formal complaint at Mini about the car and see what they can offer.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Low beams always on with DRL Setting

Hi there,

I have a 2007 Cooper D with auto headlights and auto wipers, I have the DRL setting on but my low beams are also constantly on, I am sure that this isnt correct and does anyone know a way of resetting the lights at all? Perhaps pulling the fuse or removing the battery for 5 mins?

Any help would be appreciated!

06 mini cooper brake lights still on after key is out

Hi everyone,

I just recently bought an 06 mini used with 91k miles. The car has some problems hence why I found this forum.

The car had been leaking water through the sunroof apparently so when I bought the car I had to fix that and dry the rug. I noticed that when I take keys out the car the brake lights are on. The tachometer doesn't work and when I take keys out ignition the brake lights are still on. Anyone else had a similar issue and can help a new mini owner out?

No oil pressure at idle

For the first time since I have had the car (a few days and ~250 miles) the oil pressure dropped to nil on the gauge coupled with the oil pressure warning light at idle. As soon as the car accelerates the pressure shoots back up to the normal range on the gauge and will stay there until coming to a full stop. I checked with the previous owner and he stated that the car would do this to him periodically but he always just checked the oil, which was always fine, and had the engine inspected for any leaks and found none. I drove the car about 30 miles today without this issue, but on my work commute 2 blocks, it started.

Oil being run is 5W30 synthetic per spec. Oil level is fine, no leaks. There is absolutely no pressure issue while driving and there are no abnormal sounds from the engine. From what I can gather it will either be: a) oil pressure sensor, b) oil pressure relief valve, or c) oil pump.

I tend to not think the oil pump as the engine makes no knocking or rattling sounds while having the indicated zero pressure. Accelerates fine, runs fine.

The oil temperature was showing less than normal during this incident and the coolant temperature never increased from normal. The ambient temperature was about 95 degrees.

I will pickup the sensor from the dealer tomorrow morning and put it in and go from there, but what are some thoughts? I have never had this issue with our other R53 MCS.
