Hello :)

I'm excited to be here and read and learn as much as possible about the MINI i have at the moment.

Not sure I should go into the gory details of my USED nightmare so far but I will soon. I hope someone can provide me good honest advice.

Bought this Silver 05 Cooper S in Orange County California. I'm not going to name them now but maybe later. Anyways 84K $10,000 seemed to be in really good condition.

The rest will come in the appropriate location.
I'm IN A JAM!! But I LOVE THIS CAR.

Thanks for reading.

Happy Motoring

Former Clubman S owner - have snow tires/wheels to sell

Hello,
I had a 2009 Mini Cooper S Clubman a couple of years ago. It was a load of fun, and I do miss it, but we ended up selling it due to the harsh ride on our poorly maintained roads in CT. I think it was made worse due to the low-profile 17" wheels on the car.

I got stuck in a freak winter storm one day for several hours, because those tires and low car couldn't make it up a long upgrade. I purchased a pair of 205/45R-17” 84H Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 RTF Run-Flat Performance Winter Snow Tires mounted and balanced on Alloy Wheels from Tire Rack, but never installed them. I still have them, brand new and I need to sell them.

I don't expect to get all my money back, but I really need to recoup some of the nearly $900 I spent.

Because it was not a common size wheel for that Mini, I'm hoping I can find someone here that can use them and offer me a fair price.

Passenger airbag 2007 mini cooper

My mini passenger airbag light came on and took it to dealer he found that the fc93c3 seat ocupancy detector had a short in OC3 mat. The cost was $2500 to replace the seat!. I protested that a safety item should not fait in 47000 miles of use and thatMinin has a bad record in the design and installation of this item with prior year recalls and extentision of 10 years and up to 150000 miles for earlier failures. It is definitly a materaial defect in design or equipment/parts for this to ocure. I got a good will deduction to $910.40 but still feel that this is a system wide safety issue. National rep says no recall for my 2007 but check NHTSA action number for yours PE05053. I reported it to the National Highway Safety Admin (www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/L/ and recommend all mini owner with the same issue do the same. Lets get a recall going!

Hi there...major headache. My cars been at the autoelectrians for over a week and everything been reading as OK. I have since been told that the instrument cluster panel lights have gone which I already bloody knew...i was told the part was on order and now it isn't !! But have been told its going to cost me over £400 for that alone !!!!! Got a feeling someone's been trying to rip me of here and I have the car back now. The panels work absolutely fine but the background lights have blown...can anyone shed me any light lol...I've also been told I need a code as my mileage will wipeout once the clocks removed. Lets just say I won't be using my local auto electricians again and no I haven't paid them any money as I have been provided with a shoddy service..:frown::frown:

Hey all,

Just bought a use '03 Mini Cooper S Chilli Red White top black trim and wheels charcoal gray leather interior.

I have always liked the look of this car, so when our Mercedes started to have one problem after another we went looking and found a Mini we liked. Now I hear many people have a lot of problems with them. We experience two the first day. These are apparently both common problems. First the dipstick broke in the tube. Fished out the piece and ordered a new one. Then the passenger window quit working. Found a YouTube video about this problem and determined that I'll have to take the drive motor out and clean the contacts.

So far no big deal since I'm a mechanic, but what have I gotten myself into?! Anybody have any thoughts on what I should be looking for to get ahead of common problems? On the bright side the car is a blast to drive!

I have a coper s convertible 2005 r52 and the oil light has came on and has stayed on.

I would like to ask what else I can check to get this dam light off?
I was thinking of replacing the sensor 1st but would like to get your thought as i'm new to minis... :nice::puzzled:

What to look at in a high mileage R56 LCI Cooper S??

Hey there,
I'm going to go see a used 2010 Cooper S next week. It's the first time I've ever considered buying privately, but its a really great price so I'd be mad not to go see it. It's done nearly 60K miles, so I'm a little concerned I buy it and it starts having issues...
Is there anything in particular I should be looking at? The owner tells me the only repair has been for the fuel pump, which was covered in the warranty.
Any and all help with be greatly appreciated, and if I buy it, I'll be sure to post some nice pics!
Thanks!

2008 Cooper Seat Tilt Logo

Hi

Ive just bought a 2008 Cooper D, and noticed that the little round seat tilt badge on the shoulder of the passenger seat is missing, so Id like to replace it.

Ive contacted my local dealer and Mini have told them I need to buy a whole seat back. Ive tried a couple of breakers and they have quoted me anything between £36 and a whole seat!!

Any suggestions as to where else I could source one from, as £36 for a tiny bit of plastic seems a bit overkill

2005 S model; coolant leakage. Water pump?

$

my 2005 S model had warped head replaced about 2-3 years ago. Later replaced the power steering pump and fan. I seem to recall pulling apart front end to access rad, as we wrongly thought the fan always running was rad fan, and later discovered it was the power steering pump and fan causing it to kill battery. Point is, I know we removed rad and then reinstalled. Hoping all of this is not cause of latest issue:

Car is leaking coolant. Car seems to run fine, EXCEPT a long period of idling will cause overheating. Normal driving does not cause overheat. I notice a coolant puddle in my parking spot, after car is shut off, which seems to be getting worse. seems to be dripping from behind rad (as in, closer to firewall from the rad).

Any other car I've owned.... the coolant puddle when not running is indicative of water pump failure. Is the long idling/overheat also suggesting water pump issue?

Anyone replaced water pump? Always an ugly job on the easiest of vehicles, what is it like on these?

Any other trouble shooting I should do before diving into this repair?

THANKS!!

Tinted windows

I recently bought a new Audi A1 black edition. My wife has been on at me to get the 2 front windows tinted to match the rest of the car as it looks 'silly'.I have just been told that it is illegal to tint the front windows Our Cooper was purchased in 2003, all the windows are quite heavily tinted, to what percentage I don't know. When I purchased the car the saleman advised me to have the untinted front windows tinted to match the others. I agreed & also got stung £200 for the privelage. I am now being told that they are totally illegal & that if stopped I will be fined. I have the bill of sale with this itemised. What do you think people? Your views would be much appreciated.

Broken temperature dial on R56 2007 Mini Cooper S with Automatic Air Conditioning...

$

Hi

A few weeks ago, I was on a climbing trip in Wales and to make room in the car park, I parked up against the hedge. Naturally, I climbed across the inside of the vehicle to get out of the passenger door.

On getting back into the car, I noticed a little blue piece of plastic on the tarmac, which I dismissed as it didn't appear to be any paint work (my Mini is Laser Blue).

Anyway, needless to say, it was only at the end of the trip driving out of Wales, that I realised it was the blue bit of plastic for the temperature control switch of my 2007 R56 Mini (UK) which has the automatic air conditioning option! :frown:

Somehow, with the switch lacking this piece of blue plastic, won't click down and only clicks up, so now the heater is stuck on maximum when the fan is turned on! D'Oh! (Thankfully it's coming into winter!)

I can see that the Blue LED behind the panel is lit, so don't think I've damaged the PCB and I've found youtube videos of how to dismantle the trim to get the centre console panel off.

But before I have to take it apart, I was wondering if anyone has had to repair the temperature control? Can I just replace the blue plastic bit and the switch will work again? Or do I have to get a new switch assembly or do I have to buy the whole damned panel? :puzzled:

Anyone know of any pictures of the inside of the switch gear or the back of the centre console panel?

Thanks in advance

Hey everyone I'm a newbie on here and a girl so no mock taking :)
Just changed timing chain tensioner as had a horrible rattle on engine, it was cured for a wee while then came back with revenge going to attempt to change timing chain with my dad also change oil filter and a full oil change .... Is there anything else we need to be aware of its a 2002 Mini Cooper the rattle is definitely coming from the timing chain area so it's got to be that ... Hasn't it
Has anyone got any links to vids showing how to change the chain as all the utube ones are for minis with turbos :-(

Thanking you in advance hope you can help a lady in need ha ha

Headlight connector

Evening all

Went to upgrade the MCS' bulbs last weekend, and main beam and side lights went without a hitch. Dips, however, were a different story  The plastic housing to the connectors that clip onto the metal on the back of the bulbs has perished on both headlights. Literally, as soon as I touched each of them, I had pieces of plastic in my hand.

I've been to the Stealers and after I'd explained at length (grrr), the chap ordered me a repair kit, but couldn't show me what was in it until it arrived. Upon delivery, it's totally the wrong thing. I spoke to another parts chap who said that the only way to get the plastic bits that I want is to order a new headlight wiring loom! Yes, I think we all know what they cost, and for the sake of a 20p bit of plastic, I'm not prepared to pay it.

Given that I won't be the only person who needed replacements, can anyone assist please? If anyone can point me in the direction of where I can obtain either the plastic connector, or the connector and contents (if necessary), that would be great.

Thanks guys! :D
