My Wife's 04 Cooper has an intermittent power steering problem. We assumed it was the pump itself as we all know they can be problematic. My wife says it does it least once on her 3 or 4 mile commute. But when I go out and try it, it doesn't play up for me!:confused:
So I gave this some thought and the only difference between my driving it and her, skillz aside :D, is I've been driving at night, ergo with the lights on. As I'm told the pump is electric and not belt driven has anyone ever heard of something on the wiring side of things causing intermittent pump problems?
I'll check the alternator output at the weekend with lights on and off and I've asked teh wife to drive with the lights on every time she drives it for 3 or 4 days to see if it cures it and if it comes back when she then starts driving with the lights off again.
Thoughts?
