My 57 R56 was in with BMW for a week after a suspected HPFP failure didn't fix the cold start problems. It coincided with the stage 2 cooling fan coming on in traffic (where it hadn't before) and running on for many minutes after engine shut off, even after a very short drive. I mentioned the coolant had gone dark and smelt bad, it turned out the thermo housing had cracked, a common failure on these.
The question is, now it's back and imo running better than ever, I'm still getting the Stage 2 fan run on after I turn off. It's not as bad as before the thermo swap, but it's more frequent than before the issue arose.
What's the general consensus on when the stage 2 will kick in? Stuck in traffic maybe? After a vigorous drive in really hot weather? I don't know whether it's behaving right now, or if it was right before? What are these things like for Airlocks? Is there anyway of getting engine temp up on one of the dash displays?
